Stellenangebot: Cognitive Modeling

Neuer Graben 29, 49074 Osnabrück Vollzeit

Osnabrück University is a young and very dynamic university, characterized by a very active and renowned scientific community, especially in the field of cognitive science. The Institute of Cognitive Science is constantly striving to give further impetus to its mission of international excellence in science and education and to further strengthen its international and national cooperation network.

The following professorship (male/female/diverse) is to be filled in the School of Human Sciences, Institute of Cognitive Science, at the University of Osnabrück at the earliest possible date:

Cognitive Modeling
(salary level W2)

Role:
In research and teaching, the professorship represents the field of cognitive modeling in its entirety and, in particular, contributes to modern methods for modeling intelligence, communication, or complex cognitive functions, including probabilistic methods. The professorship works closely with the existing working groups at the Institute of Cognitive Science and actively participates in joint third-party-funded activities.

The professorship is involved in teaching within all Cognitive Science study programs ( B.Sc. , M.Sc). The responsibility of the professorship includes the implementation of corresponding specialist courses and the implementation of introductory courses on cognitive/statistical modeling. All courses are held in English.

Professional Requirements:
The recruitment requirements include research experience in cognitive modeling for intelligence, communication, or complex cognitive functions. This is documented by peer-reviewed publications in renowned journals and by the successful acquisition of third-party funding. Examples of research experience that usefully complement the existing specialist areas at the Institute of Cognitive Science include modeling of language and communication, modeling of higher cognitive functions, and modeling of behavior with regard to phylogenetic trajectories (e.g., evolution, cognitive development). The research profile must include the collection and analysis of experimental data, combined with a realistic perspective on implementing all aspects of the research, including the experimental components. Substantial international research experience must also be evident, demonstrated, for example, by research stays abroad, international research collaborations, or an international working environment during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase in Germany.

Teaching experience in undergraduate independent teaching appropriate to the subject area of the professorship, especially in the area of cognitive/statistical modeling, is required.

The recruitment requirements also include an excellent command of written and spoken English and a willingness to participate in the academic self-administration of the university to a usual extent. Therefore, for non-German-speaking applicants, the willingness to achieve a corresponding level of German within two years is also required.

Statutory Requirements:

You will hold a first degree in Cognitive Science or related areas, show a proven aptitude for teaching, have demonstrated your ability to engage independently in advanced academic research – as a rule by obtaining an outstanding PhD – and have a sustained publication record in research equivalent to the German Habilitation in accordance with Section 25 subsection 1 no. 4a of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act [NHG].

The position is available on a full-time or part-time basis.

Osnabrück University is a family-friendly university and is committed to helping working/studying parents balance their family and working lives.

Osnabrück University is actively seeking to increase the number of female Professors in its employ. Applications from women are therefore particularly welcome.
